Matchbook Covered Table

I covered this sewing table with matchbook covers (or calling cards) from places we’ve been.  We get to be nostalgic about our college years in Iowa City and when we lived in Chicago and Denver.

This time I have a before and after picture.  I can’t figure out how to move pictures on blogger, so you’ll have to see the after photo first.

I painted the table in homemade chalk paint and then modge podged the matchbook covers.  I topped the covers with three to five coats of varnish and paste wax for the rest of the table.

We have this odd space off of our kitchen, which I think was supposed to be a mud room, but is no where near any doors we actually use.

I wanted to be able to see what the kids were doing on the computer, so I decided this sewing table would make a great spot for our laptop in this odd space.  Plus we can easily keep tabs on the kids.

Before the paint had dried, our son was already at the computer, playing a game.  I think this is going to work out just fine.

  1. so cute, I love the fold-out. I saw a bird bath (with ‘roman column’ post) out on the curb for trash pick up, and thought of you. I’m sure you could turn it into something fun!

  2. Thanks so much. I’m having a great time.
